Agriturismo Poggitazzi is located in the center of an ancient Tuscan farm of XIV century origin, once used for the agricultural processing of tobacco, silk and linen. The "factory", after a scrupulous restoration, has been divided into apartments and equipped with modern comforts and facilities. The farm offers a hospitable and discreet atmosphere, immersed in the green of the countryside and secular trees, in a dominant position the whole panorama of the valley below.
Antico Borgo Poggitazzi History
The Antica Villa Poggitazzi is located in the idyllic quiet of the Tuscan countryside, along an ancient trail of Etruscan origin (today Sette Ponti, once Cassia Vetus), which crosses the Valdarno. Built during the Lombard period for defensive purposes, it was in 1288 entrusted to the Florentine notary Maffeo di Francesco da Sommaja; his descendants later modified the original appearance with embellishments and expansions, such as coffered ceilings and splendid frescoes.
From 1300 the Libri family realizes extensions and renovations and completes the chapel dedicated to S. Antonio Abate on the square to the south of the whole settlement; on one side we can read the plaque placed in 1489 for a restoration done by Paolo di Maffeo de 'Libri.
Over the centuries the fortified fortress was transformed into a village and renaissance residence under the Books family, up to the 800 and its last renovation by the Counts Magherini-Graziani.
At the Villa, the center of the property, there is also an old factory for silk, tobacco and linen, still called "La Fabbrica", where the historical agricultural traditions are maintained with the production of oil and wine.
From the complex, after a restoration that has not in any way affected the original architecture, a high-level agritourism was born, divided into apartments and rooms that give the opportunity to stay in a relaxing setting in contact with nature and the living signs of the past which recall centuries of history and culture.
