Castello dei Marchesi Alfieri History
The castle and the estate have always been linked to a family history. In the Middle Ages the castle belongs to the Solaro family, a Guelph family of merchants and bankers. Since 1616, the Alfieri, a noble family from Asti, have lived in the residence and led the land and vineyards.
Starting from 1696, the Alfieri began important works to transform the medieval fortress into a splendid Baroque residence, with simple lines and well integrated in the surrounding landscape. In front of the residence, in 1720 the Orangery was built, the family's winter garden, decorated by Comacini masters with delicate stuccos. The castle was modified one last time around 1820 with an important intervention by Ernesto Melano, the first architect of his majesty Carlo Alberto di Savoia.
