Relais Il Canalicchio History
The Relais Il Canalicchio is the one that historically and architecturally so often calls a hillock castle. It is an ancient village built around the year 1000 AD, which three centuries later was surrounded by a mighty city wall, giving life to a fortified village. From the height of its 420 meters, the sighting tower appears from afar to those who enter the valley between the Puglia torrent and the Tiber river. The building that closes the castle to the south-west, where most of the accommodation is set, dates back to the mid-eighteenth century, like the adjacent church. The relais has rooms with high-sounding names: Countess of Oxford, Isabelle Rubens, Duke of Buckingham, Duchess of Norfolk - in which Art Nouveau, classic and antique furniture blend harmoniously. Coordinated curtains in the colors of the tapestries and accessories show the extreme care given to details. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are covered with beautiful wooden trusses.
At the restaurant "Il Pavone" you can taste traditional Umbrian dishes, a cuisine for true connoisseurs, also thanks to the use of genuine products from the attached farm (which can also be purchased by mail).
