In the south-west of the city of Haag stands the Salaberg castle. The architectural image of the castle is determined by three courtyards placed side by side, the outline of the building through the two towers of the central court and the clock tower of the court

Schloss Salaberg History

The first known mention of the castle, which at that time was still a castle, is found in a document from the year 1282. In 1530 the merchant Niclas Kölnbeck from Steyr bought the castle. From the Kölnbeck family the castle was enlarged into a Renaissance castle. This period coincides with the origin of the arched court. In 1618, the castle was sold to the family of the Salburg counts, direct ancestors of the current owner Christian Freiherr of Mylius. Georg Siegmund Conte Salburg and his son Franz Ferdinand Conte Salburg, who led his extraordinary military career to Lieutenant Field Marshal, were the most significant builders of Salaberg. Through them, the castle was given the appearance it still shows today.

Around 1640, the central court was built, adding three two-storey wings to the existing building in the eastern part. This courtyard is flanked at the corners by two almost square towering towers in plan. Around 1700, starting from the construction of the castle chapel, the outer courtyard was built, which is essentially a courtyard. These extensions of the palace between 1600 and 1700 are interesting from a historical-artistic point of view, because in contrast to the Renaissance part, not only the architecture but also the artistically interesting interiors and gardens have been preserved.

The castle is not currently open to the public. However, the Venetian ballroom can be rented for private events. The chapel of the castle, restored since 1998, is also available for celebrations.
