Amerang Castle is first mentioned in documents as a noble residence in 1072. In the 16th century, the Scaligeri, exiled lords of Verona, built a trapezoidal arcaded courtyard in the old Gothic castle.
Before the "Lords of the Scala," as the Scaligers called themselves, the Laimingers, tournament bailiffs and one of the most important families in Bavaria, resided here. After the Scaligers, the Counts of Lamberg were lords of Amerang.
Georg Sigmund was one of the most influential and wealthiest lords in Austria at the time. His son, Prince Maximilian von Lamberg, lord of Steyr, concluded, among other things, the Thirty Years' War as Austria's envoy. The castle passed from the Lambergs to the current owner family, the Barons of Crailsheim, by marriage in 1821. For over 700 years and more than 23 generations, Amerang Castle has not only been the site of cultural events and major celebrations, but also a former family residence.
The 23rd generation, with Ortholf Freiherr von Crailsheim and his wife Julia Freifrau von Crailsheim-Larisch, continues a long and rich history.
Today Amerang Castle stands as an imposing historical gem with a wide range of offerings. Popular are romantic weddings, which unfold a very special charm in this enchanting setting. We also offer seasonal concerts in the castle and operas with a very special atmosphere. The offer is completed by the possibility of using the castle as a venue for family celebrations and corporate events. For all these occasions it is possible to stay overnight in the castle hotel.
In addition to these experiences, the castle also offers a selection of high-quality products such as handicrafts, regional specialties, and souvenirs in the castle store. The majestic castle complex not only houses a fascinating museum that offers insights into history, but also serves as a charming setting for concerts, operas, wedding celebrations, and corporate events.
All rooms at Amerang Castle have been individually furnished by Baroness von Crailsheim. They offer a spacious living area of between 40 and 60 square meters, carefully furnished with family antiques, comfortable armchairs, desks and beds of various sizes, from French beds to double beds. You will find no television or telephone in the rooms so you can unplug, but free Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. You can have breakfast directly in the house or in our historic "Schlosscafé" in the Richterhaus. Here you can enjoy the beautiful view from the garden over Amerang in summer.
