The San Pietro in Valle Abbey is surrounded by the green woods, between the city of Spoleto and the Marmore waterfalls; a thousand-year-old abbey with a magnificent view of the valley, transformed into a period residence in 1999 with 20 rooms and 1 suite. Each room is equipped with an en suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV and minibar, while maintaining the old charm with the terracotta floors and wooden ceilings. The same atmosphere is found in the common areas from the breakfast room, to the meeting room, to the Hora Media restaurant, where you can taste seasonal dishes and Umbrian specialties.

Abbazia San Pietro in Valle History

In the middle of a dense forest, lying on the side of Monte Solenne inside the Natural Park of the Nera river, stands the Abbey of San Pietro in Valle.

Its history begins in the VIII century by the will of Faroaldo II, duke of Spoleto, in the places where the hermits Lazarus and John lived. Passed under the ownership of the Municipality of Spoleto, at the end of the ninth century it suffered the sacking of the Saracens and then rebuilt in 996. In 1234 it was assigned to the Cistercians, thus beginning a period of great influence on the territory subject to it. Later it passed to the Cybo family and then again to the noble Ancajani family, who also took care of the restoration. The Costanzi family is its current owner and was responsible for the renovation completed in 1998.

The characteristic rooms of the residence are for the most part obtained from the cells formerly used by the Benedictine monks and are each different from the other, some with shelves and built-in wardrobes, some with fireplace, others with loopholes and vestibules. But what makes it particularly evocative is the mystical and timeless atmosphere in which you are transported once you enter the rooms of the San Pietro in Valle Abbey. The 19 rooms and 2 suites are all air-conditioned, with an en-suite bathroom and satellite TV keeping the original charm with terracotta floors, oak wood ceilings and thick stone walls.

The restaurant "l'Hora Media" of the Abbey offers local dishes that strictly follow the seasonality of the products, to be tasted in an intimate and timeless setting. The Hora Media also offers theme nights, cooking classes, medieval banquets with actors' entertainment and musicians able to engage guests in a global experience.

Breakfast is served, during the summer, in the outdoor cloister: to wait for a rich buffet with homemade pies and cakes, jams, bread and fresh fruit, as well as cold cuts, cheeses, honey and yogurt.

The Abbey of San Pietro in Valle is also an ideal place to host wedding ceremonies, anniversaries and any type of special event, using exclusively the interiors, the small cloister of the '400, the romantic cloister, the garden and lounges. The characteristic Longobard church annexed to the abbey with its pre-Giotto frescoes is also available for a possible ceremony, subject to authorization by the Curia.

For those wishing to organize seminars, conventions, meetings and training courses in an atmosphere of charm and suggestion where to combine tranquility with the beauty of the rooms, the Abbey offers the Reading Room and the Capitolare Room with a maximum capacity of 50 people.
