Located in the territory of the municipality of Acquapendente, in the province of Viterbo, the Castle of Torre Altafina was born in the early Middle Ages on the remains of a pre-existing watchtower. Dwelling over the centuries of the lords of duty, with the unity of Italy passes to the City of Acquapendente. The Castle offers its guests as a prestigious historic residence to rent for stays of great charm or for events of unique magic, enveloped by the ancient splendor of the spacious internal halls.

Castello di Torre Alfina History

The origins of the Castle of Torre Alfina escape the historiographical memories, but the strategic position guarding important transit routes that since ancient times cross the territory, indicates its defensive function in a system to protect Orvieto. The first certain documents date back to the thirteenth century, a period in which the history of the complex is intertwined with that of the Monaldeschi della Cervara, a famous man of arms, to whom we owe the initiative to convert the ancient fortified structure into an elegant noble residence. To Ippolito Scalza we owe the architectural and sculptural interventions, while to Cesare Nebbia the pictorial decorations. After passing into the properties of the Bourbon del Monte, the castle passes to the banker Edoardo Cahen who intervenes with a total restoration of the building, concealing the original medieval appearance with the neo-gothic style, the most fashionable style in the period. The restoration work was completed by his son Teofilo Rodolfo, who stayed there until the promulgation of the racial laws, when he was forced to abandon Italy.

All around the village and its castle reigns the Bosco del Sasseto, a mixed deciduous forest full of ancient trees. Called by National Geographic "Bosco di Biancaneve" or "Bosco delle Fate" it was once a dark and uncultivated forest and was transformed at the end of the 19th century by the Marquis Cohen.

The frame that presents itself to the guests of the castle is very suggestive: large open spaces with Italian gardens overlooking the countryside protected by fortified walls guarantee great charm and at the same time absolute privacy. Inside the internal halls, which can accommodate up to 400 people, are furnished with fine antique furniture and decorated with marble, stucco and frescoes. A perfect location for weddings and events in style, where ancient history and ancient traditions blend perfectly.

Open for guided tours, the Castle of Torre Alfina also offers the opportunity to be rented to spend a stay immersed in history and be served and revered by professional and qualified staff to meet every need.
