Located a short distance from the sea and the historic center of Otranto, Torre Pinta is an early medieval building that, in an intact and evocative historical atmosphere, welcomes guests in elegant and comfortable accommodation, furnished with traditional Salento furniture. In the restaurant are served dishes of local organic cuisine and its simple but tasty peasant dishes.
Torre Pinta History
Some people have compared this construction to a royal crown, because of its battlements, but it would perhaps be more correct to call it the "tip of an iceberg". Tower of sight of late medieval age about three meters tall, Torre Pinta is the only visible element of a great messapian hypogeum dug in the rock, once used as an early Christian place of worship and then a dovecote. The hypogeum is in fact composed of rooms perforated by hundreds of small niches, arranged according to the Latin cross plan. The central room was originally covered by a dome, collapsed in the eighteenth century.
That sweet hill surmounted by a tower placed in control of the city of Otranto is therefore a very important archaeological site, a rarity in the area of the valley of the Memories, both in terms of vastness and good state of conservation.
In the immediate vicinity there is another old building, restored by the owners, who have made it a pleasant place to stay, full of charm and charm. The four apartments, as well as the restaurant, are obtained in medieval rooms with vaulted ceilings in warm Lecce stone, large fireplaces and furnishing elements that are in keeping with the whole: antique furniture and fine handmade lace.
From the eight hectares of the estate we produce organic farming products that are used in the creation of simple dishes, typical of the peasant peasant tradition, that go to prepare the tables of the restaurant.
Despite being immersed in a rural setting, Torre Pinta is also ideal for those who want to make beach life: the nearest beach, with rocks and sand, is only seven hundred meters away. As for sports, at the company you can rent bicycles to go hiking in the surrounding area, while for horse riding enthusiasts you can take advantage of an agreement with a nearby riding school.
