The Winkler-Hermaden family has lived at Schloss Kapfenstein for over 100 years. Since then it has cultivated over 100 hectares of land. Most are covered with woods but in the middle there are agricultural lands, meadows, orchards and vineyards. In addition to agriculture, we also have a hotel and restaurant on Schloss Kapfenstein, where we serve regional specialties.
Kapfenstein Schloss Restaurant History
After a changing story of approx. 900 years, Schloss and Gut Kapfenstein have been owned by the Winkler-Hermaden family since 1918. Built by the Kapfenstein family from the 10th to the 11th century, the castle has seen many things over the centuries. Numerous attacks and Turkish sieges, changes of ownership, times of decline and reconstruction. Now known as Schloss Kapfenstein, the castle is used as a hotel and restaurant.
16 individual rooms, carefully decorated with antique furniture but also with the comfort of today, invite you to linger. The history of the house, the names of the previous owners or simply their position give the rooms special names, each one is unique in terms of size, architecture and furnishings, characterized by unprecedented special charm.
The restaurant consists of two main rooms, the Florianistube and the corridor. For special celebrations and larger groups, Knight's Hall offers space. The Knights' Hall is a very bright and sunlit room and is also used as a breakfast room. The blue saloon is often used for civil wedding ceremonies.
The cuisine is traditional Styrian cuisine with small delicacies, such as the refined Kapfensteiner Weidelamm and brown trout, or with vegetarian delicacies, such as homemade pasta dishes and various vegetable dishes; as a dessert of our classic castle, pumpkin seed dumplings.
In addition, some of the tavern's specialties, such as fried lettuce and roast beef, will complete the meal menu on the weekend.
In the evening, refined dishes spoil you with seasonal emphasis and vegetarian creations.
