Schloss Prielau is located in an idyllic park, just 200 meters from the northern shore of Lake Zell. The former residence of the family of the writer Hugo von Hofmannsthal was documented for the first time in 1425. Since 1980, Schloss Prielau has been owned by the Porsche family, which turned it into a country hotel for hospitality lovers and Austrian cuisine.
Schloss Prielau History
Schloss Prielau was first documented in 1425, with a name Christian Glaser zu Prielau. In the sixteenth century the castle was rebuilt and acquiring the aspect it still maintains today.
In the following centuries, Schloss Prielau changed ownership several times. The last bishop prince to use the castle was Sigmund Christoph von Zeil and Trauchburg. His emblem can still be seen today at the castle gate.
In 1932 Gerti von Hofmannsthal, the widow of Hugo von Hofmannsthal, bought the estate and restored the castle. During World War II the family was dispossessed and the sculptor Josef Thorak managed to acquire the castle. After the war, the Hofmannsthal family had the property returned. In 1987 the Porsche family purchased the property and transformed the castle into a hotel, while it is from 2004 that the castle is run by Anette and Andreas Mayer.

In summer the terrace is also open in the evening, with the view that can be admired with a glass of wine or an aperitif to be enjoyed before dinner at the MAYER's restaurant, the gourmet restaurant at Schloss Prielau. Under the direction of the famous chef Andreas Mayer, he and his team ensure a special kind of gastronomic experience.
