Historical figure Guido Visconti di Modrone

Guido Visconti di Modrone was an Italian politician. He was a senator of the Kingdom of Italy in the 16th legislature and mayor of Macherio from 1878 to 1882. Voluntary fighter for the unification of Italy in the Royal Piedmont Regiment, he distinguished himself above all as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

In 1882, following the death of his brother Raimondo, he took over the management of the Visconti di Modrone textile factory in Vaprio d'Adda, succeeding in increasing its production and quality of fabrics by introducing cutting-edge technologies. He then started the Visconti di Modrone weaving in S. Vittore Olona and the Visconti di Modrone Candeggio in Somma Lombardo.

He was president and important benefactor of the Teatro alla Scala from 1898 to 1902, the year of his death. The Duke Guido Visconti di Modrone married May 7, 1870 in Bologna Ida Renzi from which he had four sons: Uberto, Giovanni, Giuseppe and Guido Carlo. His tomb is in the Visconti di Modrone mausoleum in Cassago Brianza.
