Castello Valenzino History
Among the Umbrian hills, in a valley surrounded by lush vegetation alternating with centuries-old trees and flowery expanses, stands the castle Valenzino, once a noble residence used during hunting parties, today a charming accommodation facility.
The origins of the structure are lost in the folds of time and its past is now reconstructed on the traces of ancient documents and above all by the analysis and study of its materials and architectural composition, given the numerous and evident signs present due to the various renovations and extensions suffered in the course of its history.
It is not certain that the house to which we owe the name Valenzino, but from some medieval documents the castle is remembered next to the castle of Antognolla, with which he divided several events, precisely for their strategic position and the ability to communicate through visual signals. In the year 1836 it was bought by Giovanni Battista Guglielmi, already owner of the castle of Antognolla and later passed into the properties of the De Fonseca Pimentel family. Over the years the castle was gradually abandoned and around the middle of the '900 totally abandoned to itself and completely uncovered.
Today's visitor seems impossible to imagine the complex in total abandonment, given the interventions taken care of according to the directives of the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage: a careful and scrupulous restoration made using all original materials of the time and recovery, merging the new to the old structure, with furnishings of typical Umbrian taste, to infuse a feeling with an antique flavor.
The castle consists of two main nuclei, of which the religious one, once a church, today completely unrecognizable as such, of medieval origin. The construction of the central body dates back to the same period, while successive are the leaning of the round tower (probably of the fifteenth century) and the two lower body, located on the sides of the structure.
Inside the rooms and suites are furnished with a combination of vintage and modern furniture, equipped with satellite TV, DVD player, a sofa and a private bathroom, while many include a kitchenette, making the accommodation completely independent. The common areas include a barbecue area, a laundry room, a library and a relaxation room with darts and ping-pong, all equipped with wi-fi connection.
Providing free private parking, Castello Valenzino is just a few minutes from Pierantonio Train Station and the castle of Antognolla.
