Palazzo Grande History
Palazzo Grande is surrounded by a vast park of about 30 hectares comprising a centuries-old forest, an olive grove, cherry trees, walnuts and agricultural land, 12 km from Perugia and 15 from Lake Trasimeno. Already in Roman times the place was the seat of a country villa and in the early Middle Ages a fortified tower was built. During the seventeenth century it took on its definitive appearance as a result of expansion works commissioned by the Counts Baldeschi, owners of the land. From that moment on, the agricultural function in favor of that of "place of delights" disappeared, as is still evidenced by the admirable remains in the park: ruins, caves, statues, the source. Centuries later, between 1846, the noble palace was the seat of the Pontifical Delegation, as Count Alessandro Baldeschi, who was linked by fraternal friendship to Pope Pius IX, had been designated by him as his Delegate. In 1961 the Generosi family, the current owner, bought the villa in total abandonment bringing it back to its former glory.
Even today, the stately home surprises its visitors with its austere exterior elegance that contrasts with the refinement of the interior, where the atmosphere of a noble palace is alive: the hall with 17th-century frescoes, decorated coffered ceiling and an impressive fireplace with coat of arms, precious rooms for cocktails, tea or reading, a noble chapel still consecrated with the neo-Gothic altar and finally the 19 rooms furnished with style and elegance, where the charm of past centuries has been preserved with furniture, paintings and original objects.
Outside in the large park is the swimming pool, perfect place for relaxing moments immersed in the tranquility of the countryside. A tennis court, 5-a-side football pitch, a forest life course and a gym allow you to stay in shape even during your holiday. Near the Palace, a few minutes by car, there are also 3 international golf courses, while next to the property there is a riding stable. For breakfast, great attention is paid to the choice of products and raw materials, always fresh and coming from the best producers.
