Castello di Rosciano History

The imposing castle of the castle of Rosciano stands in a dominant position in the valley of Tiber and Tascio between the hills between Bettona and Torgiano, immersed in the silence of the holm oaks. Possessive structure in sandstone, austere and rough, was erected in the Lombard period on a pre-existing site first Etruscan and then Roman. Already in the year 1000, the manor was reputed to be impregnable and had its period of greatest fame during the early Middle Ages when it was the residence of the noble and powerful family of the Scifi counts of Sassorosso under the concession of Frederick II. In the following years it passed to the families of Signorelli, Tancredi Baglioni, Graziani, Ansidei until then becoming a possession of the Papal State.

In 1266 the body of San Crispolto was transferred to Rosciano, while in 1274 the construction of the castle of Torgiano began, leading to a heated rivalry with Rosciano until the clashes between the two communities at the end of 1277. After various vicissitudes, among which an attack by the Perugian militia in 1384 which seriously damaged the walls, the castle and all the surrounding property were purchased in the mid-nineteenth century by the brothers Ciotti, Francesco and don Crispolto.

Returned to its ancient splendor by a scrupulous restoration that has preserved the original structure, the castle dominates a magnificent panorama that embraces the landscape from Perugia to Assisi, where the vineyards and olive groves cover the hills offering an uncontaminated and relaxing space.

The Castle offers the opportunity to stay in environments of other times, immersed in the tranquility and slow pace of the Umbrian countryside: guests can choose between the rooms located in the Benedictine monastery in front of the building, each with different colors and furniture antique and local crafts, rooms and apartments housed in the ancient watchtower in the north of the castle, or between the rooms in the three towers on the fifth floor of the keep, served by elevator, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the valley .

The magical atmospheres of the castle of Rosciano and its multiple spaces lend themselves perfectly to hosting wedding receptions and special occasions. Depending on the seasons and preferences, you can use the large garden or the former church for summer and winter weddings. The panoramic terrace framed by the majestic holm oaks will welcome a charming welcome drink, while the various rooms can be set up for romantic candlelit dinners and host the 190 guests of the Lingarda Room and the Sala delle Armi, to 300 of the great Tancredi Salon.

An expert staff, attentive to every need, will be able to help and guide the creation of a setting of refined excellence and create a unique and unforgettable event.
