Castello di Trisobbio History
For more than eight centuries the Castle of Trisobbio stands out in the frame of the hills of Monferrato, in the region between Bormida and Orba.
The village of Trisobbio boasts ancient origins: its first news dates back to around the year one thousand, when it became part of the Church's possessions. In the thirteenth century the castle was built, although not in today's features.
In 1217 the Marquis Ottone Del Bosco and his nephews of the late Bonifacio donated Trisobbio to the municipality of Genoa. The condominium situation between Alessandria, which boasted march rights, in the name of the cession of the Occimians, and Genoa, heir of the Del Bosco, resulted in a war in 1224. Trisobbio was occupied by the Alexandrian militias who settled in the Castle.
In the peace negotiations, the fortification had to be returned to the Del Bosco, therefore indirectly to Genoa. Frederick II, in search of allies, validated the ancient rights of the Marquises of Occimiano and shortly thereafter invested Trisobbio the Marquis of Monferrato, in 1240. The question was resolved when the Malaspina family, who had substituted Del Bosco by inheritance, received awards both from the Marquises of Monferrato, and from Genoa.
In 1418-19 Trisobbio was occupied by the Milanese, during the war with Genoa and from these handed over to the Monferrato, their ally. The fief then passed to another Genoese family, Spinola, who kept it until the Napoleonic invasion.
At the end of the nineteenth century the castle was in a state of neglect and this condition continued until 1913 when restoration work was carried out that brought the castle to its present appearance. Put under the protective wing of the Regional Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and Activities of the Piedmont Region since 2002, the Castle is today an example of excellence in the field of sustainable tourism, giving hospitality to a hotel restaurant with unique charm.
The Hotel has five rooms, including 3 Junior Suites, all elegantly furnished with antiques blending with modern elements such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, minibar and telephone.
Inside the Castle of Trisobbio there is also the famous restaurant where, in the two perfect rooms for romantic rendezvous and for receptions and business meetings, the proposed cuisine is that of the Piedmontese tradition, typical recipes of the area enhanced by a careful selection of local wines.
A magnificent view of the hills, the style and the centuries-old historical context make the Castle the ideal location to host banquets and wedding receptions: it will be possible to celebrate civil ceremonies inside, in the suggestive Sala Camino or outdoors with the setting of the imposing trees and magnificent floral arrangements. A few steps from the walls is the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption for couples who want to celebrate the religious marriage. The spacious dining rooms and the outdoor garden can accommodate up to 160 guests, with a wedding planning service to accompany the spouses in organizing every detail, from floral decorations to musical entertainment, from animation and baby sitting to transfer of the couple in vintage cars or coaches, making every event unforgettable.
The Castle is also a perfect choice for professional events such as meetings, conferences, team building and business lunches with the two meeting rooms of 80 and 100 square meters that can accommodate up to 80 people and the catering service can meet any request , from coffee breaks to light lunches, offering maximum personalization.
