Hotel Landgoed Het Roode Koper History
The history of the Het Roode Koper hotel begins in 1912, when the Count of Limburg-Stirum founded the estate on a hill in the middle of the Leuvenum forest as it still exists today: a villa with outbuildings and an English garden. When the Earl became Governor General of the Dutch East Indies, new residents died in the 1930s and 1940s, including the Patijn family. After World War II, the estate was bought by the Dutch National Trust, which mainly wanted to preserve the surrounding 2,700 hectares of woodland. In 1947, the Van der Werf family took possession of Het Roode Koper with the idea of sharing this special place with others by transforming it into a hotel and has since become a paradise for nature lovers and gourmets. The Sörensen family is the third generation of the family that now manages the estate.
Het Roode Koper's restaurant is led by renowned chef Dennis van den Beld and was awarded a Michelin star in 2015. This prestigious star and membership of Alliance Gastronomique guarantees a gastronomic experience of culinary excellence. The menu features seasonal international dishes, using mainly organic regional products.
The 30 luxury hotel rooms at Het Roode Koper have all been refurbished while retaining their authentic character and are spread across four guest houses on the estate. Each room has its own atmosphere with antique, modern furniture and comfortable beds.
Outside there is a heated swimming pool, located directly next to the English garden with its splendid beech hedges and the rose garden.
Het Roode Koper also has its own tennis court and a riding stable with guest horse boxes.
