Hotel de Tabaksplant History
Hotel de Tabaksplant consists of several houses. The building that was traditionally called "Tabaksplant" (tobacco plant) consists of a front and a back. These houses were built in the early 1600s. The house is characterized by the so-called Haarlem-lijst facade with the characteristic red stripes. A new part, the garden house, was completed in 2004, in which great care was taken to fit in with the historic buildings as much as possible. Behind these buildings is a large enclosed garden with a medieval well.
The hotel takes its name from the regional tobacco trade in the 18th century. Tobacco was grown between Nijkerk and Amersfoort and dried under the roof of number 15 for later processing. In the garden house, a historic gable stone refers to the tobacco trade.
Many historical finds have been made in the grounds around the hotel. A special specimen is a medieval pot, a bronze plaque. The historic character of the hotel is reflected in the ancient ceiling beams, tile and wood floors, original windows and warm traditional hospitality. Contemporary comfort is experienced with the application and use of natural materials, modern bathrooms, complimentary wireless internet and the impeccable service and support of the staff.
