Höch Castle is a residence dating back to the 11th century surrounded by the green woods of the Flachau valley. Owned by the municipality, it is the venue for cultural events and events.
Schloss Höch History
Höch Castle was built as a residence in the 11th century in Höch. Today it is in Renaissance style.
The castle is located not far from Altenmarkt im Pongau at the entrance to the Flachau valley, at about 975 m above sea level.
Since the 13th century, people know who owned Höch Castle. However, it is not clear whether Ansitz Hohenvelde, mentioned in the document, is identical.
In 1608 the castle was sold by the then owner Kölderer to his nephew Jocher. Jocher, with his name Karl, was then one of the richest professions in the Lungau and apparently also took care of the Flachau ironworks. He gave the castle its current hoof shape and richly endowed it. When his niece married, the estate arrived in 1657 in the possession of the Counts of Plaz.
Alois Rohrmoser, a ski manufacturer for Altenmarkt, bought the Schloss Höch in 1989 and since 1999 has owned the Flachau municipality. Since 2002 it has been used for cultural purposes.
