Czocha Castle in the village of Sucha dates back to the 13th century and is located in a picturesque area near the lake. It is currently mainly a hotel and conference center, but it is still possible to take a guided tour lasting about 20 minutes. The main tourist attractions of the castle are: the Renaissance well, the Knights' Chamber, the Prince's Chamber, and the tower. A knights' tournament is also organized in the second half of August. Besides the castle, the most popular places to visit are the tower with a magnificent view of the castle surroundings and the museum with props used in various films shot in the castle.
Zamek Czocha History
The castle was planned as a fortress in the 13th century by order of Wenceslas II of Bohemia. After centuries of political turmoil, followed by a fire that destroyed the castle in the 18th century, the building was restored to its former glory with extensive funding. It thus became one of the most interesting landmarks in Lower Silesia. Unfortunately, after World War II, almost all the furnishings were looted.
Today the imposing stronghold houses an elegant hotel, and its historic interiors can be visited like any museum. Knights' tournaments, dance performances, plays and concerts held here add to the attraction, along with an elegant cafeteria and a restaurant specializing in Polish cuisine. The castle grounds have also been used as a set for many films and documentaries. The castle's wine cellar hosts mead tasting events to promote this beverage so strongly linked to the culture of ancient Poland and prized by foodies.
