Zamek Kliczków History
Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, cocooned in the scenery of the Lower Silesian forests by the Kwisa River, lies the majestic Kliczków Castle. The largest conference and hotel facility in Poland, restored to its former glory by Integer, it harmoniously combines a respect for history with a rich hotel and conference offering.
The history of this magnificent castle dates back to the late 13th century, to the time when the state of Świdnica-Jawor was ruled by Prince Piast Bolko I the Severus. It was probably on his initiative that a defensive complex was built here, which was probably one of the links in a fortified chain of border strongholds that protected the duchy from Czech invasion. The oldest mention of Castrum Clieczchdorf dates from 1297 and probably refers to the castle as a wooden and brick watchtower of still modest housing values. After the death of Prince Bolek, Kliczków became the property of his son, Henryk I Jaworski, and later, by succession, in the hands of Bolko II, duke of Świdnica and Jawor. After him, the estate was inherited by his niece Anna, wife of the Czech king Charles, in whose interests from 1353 the castle was ruled by burgrave Cuneman Sydlicz. At the end of the 14th century, with the acquisition of the Duchy of Świdnica and Jawor by the Kingdom of Bohemia, the stronghold lost its original strategic importance, turning over time into a castle and agricultural complex run by royal vassals. In 1480 it was owned by the knightly von Kittlitz family, and in 1387-91 the von Zedlitz family settled there.
