Castello di Carimate

It was now twilight for the duchy of Milan and for the painstakingly achieved equilibrium between the various lords in Italy, but the castle of Carimate lived a moment of great prestige: in 1496, Maximilian I, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, stayed there for seven days, lingering between rest and hunting in the surrounding woods.

Already known from 1149, in the fourteenth century the castle became part of the possessions of the Visconti, who ruled it along with the Aicardi: in this period the perimeter ditch was dug and the drawbridge was built. In 1795, the lack of heirs from both these houses led to the sale to the state and to the real room. Subsequently passed from hand to hand, he arrived at the twentieth century abandoned to the inclemency of the time; it was then adapted to a recording house, where numerous famous artists of the seventies and eighties recorded their songs. Only in 1987 was a careful restoration work undertaken, which in the space of three years has transformed it into a refined hotel full of charm.

Large chimneys sculpted in stone, archibugi, crossbows and old spears decorate the walls of halls and corridors from the ceilings with delicately frescoed cross vaults, while the rooms - from some of them elegant Gothic mullioned windows frame evocative glimpses of a centuries-old park of oaks and chestnut trees - combining antique elements with modern and informal design furnishings with ease. But to really get into another dimension, you can book the medieval superattico: two bedrooms with their bathrooms, spacious dining room, living room, and a large terrace overlooking the entire castle. Everything, naturally, furnished with precious antique pieces. The hotel also boasts a well-equipped congress center, with rooms for business and convivial meetings, and a restaurant serving Italian cuisine for banquets.
