Castello di Casiglio History

The first news regarding the castle dates back to the year 900, when on the plateau on which it stands now the structure stood a military outpost with a square plan.

The oldest structures visible today of the castle, the tower and the first floor, date back to 1100, but in 1200 they underwent extensions that altered the original central court structure.

In the XIV the cardinal Beltramino Parravicini was probably the author of the great restructuring project that gave the castle the aspect that we can still observe today.

During the fifteenth century the structure was the seat of the Consulate of Justice of Milan, further restored. It was during these years that the walls on the upper floor were frescoed and further enlargements were carried out without modifying the structure of the complex.

During the following two centuries the castle passed into property to several noble families and nuclei of the local bourgeoisie, until in 1656 it returned to the Parravicini family. In 1800 the manor was restored and turned into a noble residence. The owner of the time, Giovanni Cavalleri, gathered in the fortress important collections with thousands of ancient coins, volumes of history and ancient art, medieval weapons, costumes and various local archaeological finds. Famous is the visit of King Victor III who in 1890 visited Casiglio just to buy a quattrino that then became part of his numismatic collection.

Subjected to careful restoration in 198, the castle has a horseshoe-shaped plan and a majestic corner tower; the facades of the castle have large windows, with cornices and large windows to illuminate the rooms of what is today a refined accommodation. 45 double rooms including 26 standard, 8 superior, 10 junior suites and one suite, each one different from the other, furnished with antique furniture and fine fabrics and equipped with all comforts in the name of a stay made of charm and Relax.

The restaurant "Barbarossa", in honor of Federico Barbarossa who passed from here to the battle of Tassera, is obtained from the ancient cellars and offers a cuisine with a strong focus on regional specialties, accompanied by a wide selection of wines.

Castello di Casiglio also offers itself as a privileged location to host meetings and conventions or banquets and wedding receptions. The Sala Imperiale and the Sala Colonne can accommodate 130 and 300 people respectively, while outside guests can welcome guests at the pool, set in a magnificent park where there are pines, cypresses, beeches, walnuts, palms and pomegranates. The expert staff of the Castle will leave nothing to chance and will take care of every detail to make each event unique and exclusive, from the choice of menus to set-ups.
