Sichelburg Castle

The castle was built near the center of the town as the main residence of the Lords of Falzes; the second part of its name "-burg" ("castle" in German) still remembers its initial purpose.

Throughout history, the Sichelburg castle became the property of the Platzoller family, whose coat of arms is characterized by the image of two sickles ("Sichel" in German) and since 1968 has been the official banner of the Municipality of Falzes. The castle, through marriage successions, first became the property of the Jückl family of Dobbiaco, then the von Mörl family and finally the Mayrhofen family. The coat of arms of the latter is still visible at the entrance arch of the surrounding walls.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Sichelburg castle was sold. In 1999/2000 the municipality of Falzes bought the historic home of the Plangger-Baumann family and the castle was first of all subjected to a complete restoration, which allowed to bring to light ancient frescoes and arrow slits.
Following the decision to use the castle as a gastronomic accommodation facility, in 2012 a profound restoration and functional transformation of the castle into a restaurant began; the works ended successfully in May 2013.
For both lunch and dinner, the ancient walls of the fourteenth century offer a perfect setting for unforgettable hours. The romantic Stube with wooden interiors, dating back to the 16th century, can accommodate up to 40 guests, while the other rooms are also available for small and large corporate or birthday parties, as well as for weddings.
Otherwise you can dine pleasantly on the sunny terrace and the large garden is perfect for wedding aperitifs, while children can roam the lawn freely and have fun playing in the sand, on the slide and on the swing.
