Dimora del Prete di Belmonte History
The La Dimora del Prete di Belmonte deserves to be counted among the historic houses, and is one of the rare tourist reception sites throughout the Molise. Mrs Dorothy Volpe Del Prete, owner of the building, was in fact a pioneer in this field. In 1998 he opened his house to the activity of Bed & Breakfast, reserving for guests four bedrooms, simple but comfortable.
The Palace, located in the historic center of Venafro, is the result of numerous overlaps and additions of pre-existing buildings from different historical periods. Leafing through the rooms, so to speak, architectural elements can be recognized from the 16th century onwards, and a section of the pavement of an ancient Roman road can even be seen in the basement. Much of the architecture
and of the internal decorations derive however from the restructuring carried out between 1860 and 1870.
The ceilings of some rooms, in particular those of the Del Prete family, are decorated with frescoes, which in the case of the atrium depict delicate rose gardens populated by graceful birds.
The furniture consists of antique family furniture, without preciousness or rarity, but appropriate to the whole.
The dinners are the right occasion to deepen the knowledge with the owners, always available, and to taste the excellent dishes prepared personally by Dorothy. The dishes make use of the organic products of the farm attached to the property, which produces, among other things, extra virgin olive oil and red wine of Montepulciano.
The garden offers an angle of pleasant coolness, with old palms and fragrant roses. In summer, guests can use the swimming pool of a nearby hotel.
