Called the New Chateau, the Kotěra Chateau Hotel was designed by the famous Czech architect Jan Kotěra and was built in 1911-1913. Even today this neoclassical mansion has lost none of its grandeur and elegance.  Although only a few pieces of the chateau's original furnishings have survived, the hotel was fortunate enough to acquire a collection of designer furniture from the same era as the building's construction. You can thus admire cubist and modernist furnishings designed not only by Jan Kotěra and his pupil Josef Gočár, but also by a number of other prominent architects and artists. At the Hotel Kotěra Chateau you can enjoy the romantic atmosphere of the peaceful countryside, a wide range of varied activities, and delicious dishes in the renowned restaurant.

Chateau Kotera History

Built in the neoclassical style by the famous architect Jan Kotera in the 1920s, only a small part of the original furnishings of the chateau have been preserved today: the kitchen equipment (today's massage room), the serving table, and the built-in cupboard. At Chateau Kotěra, however, a unique collection of designer furniture created in the same period as the chateau has been collected.

In the rooms and chateau chambers one can admire furniture designed by Prof. Jan Kotěra or his pupil Josef Gočár and other important architects and artists active at the beginning of the 20th century: Adolf Loos, Pavel Janák, Marcel Kamerer, Otto Prutscher, Koloman Moser, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Dušan Jurkovič, Vlastislav Hofman and others.

Because of the Jewish origin of the Mandelík family, the castle was expropriated in 1939 and housed the German estate administration and SS troops until the spring of 1945. These were briefly replaced by the Red Army, and from 1947 the castle was used as an elementary school. In 1992 the castle was returned to the Mandelík family, but unfortunately it fell into disrepair until 2004, when it was converted into a hotel.

On the facade of the castle are two statues in a Michelangelo-like position embodying Matter and Spirit, the work of the famous sculptor Jan Stursa, one of the founders of modern sculpture and a student of Josef Václav Myslbek. The paintings inside the castle are based on the designs of Prof. Jan Kysela.

In the castle's renowned restaurant, traditionally ranked in the top places of Maurer's Choice among the best restaurants in the Czech Republic, you can taste cuisine "with a touch of the South" in a pleasant and elegant setting. Seasonal specialties are regularly added to the basic menu, and special events focusing on gastronomy are also organized.

The restaurant, opened in 2004, focuses on Mediterranean cuisine, fish and seafood, and classic French dishes, all accompanied by a selection of wines from around the world.
