Hotel Monteconero History
Located at the top of Monte Conero, at 550 m above sea level, the Hotel Monteconero enjoys a breathtaking view of the Adriatic Sea and the rolling hills of the Marche region. The structure, obtained from an ancient abbey, dates back to 1038 when the church was donated by the Cortesi Counts of Sirolo to a local abbot to build a monastery there. The construction of the first cloister opposite the church dates back to 1203 and there were various religious orders that over the centuries alternated in the Hermitage of San Pietro, which in the meantime expanded in size as well as in importance. In 1558 a fire, probably of malicious origin, destroyed a large part of the convent with subsequent reconstruction by the Benedictine monks of Camaldoli who settled here from 1561 until 1864, when they had to abandon the hermitage following the expropriation of the property ecclesiastics by the state. The Convent then passed into the ownership of the Municipality of Sirolo, subsequently to the Marchetti families, Soderini Caraffi d'Andria and finally to the Melappioni family who run the hotel for three generations.
The Hotel Monteconero has 50 rooms on three floors, equipped with Wi-Fi, direct dial telephone, air conditioning, satellite TV, mini-bar, safe and private bathroom. Bright and welcoming, they have several panoramic views, some towards the coast, others towards the hills or the private park.
