Six historic 16th-century houses have been lovingly restored and combined with two new buildings to create an extraordinary and unique hotel. Enjoy the harmony, atmosphere and special charm between the medieval walls and modern architecture.

Hotel Arminius History

It all began more than 220 years ago, in 1787, when the son of merchant Cornelius Schröder opened an inn at Ritterstraße 2. The house was built in 1577. The house itself was built in 1577. Over the decades, the "Gasthaus Schröder" was renamed "Gasthaus zu Schröders Erben" (1825) and "Hotel Grimm" (1939). The first documented mention of the "Arminius Hotel" was in 1889. From 1921 to 1988 the hotel was run by the Bonnermann family.

The building is a two-story half-timbered construction with 9 beams and a cantilevered upper floor from the first half of the 16th century. Based on the construction features, it may have been built in 1530/40, but the names of the residents are only recorded from 1549.

Probably from the beginning there was an installation of a 3-barrel deep room along the left eaves in the high floor of the ground floor. The rear part of the house is separated by a wall of stone stoves, behind which is the hall with a basement. Both the hall and entrance chimney were restored during the conversion to a hotel.

The present "Hotel Arminius" has had a new look since 1992: 6 historic half-timbered houses from the 16th century (Ritterstraße 2, 6, 8 and Schennershagen 2, 3, 4) were carefully restored between 1990 and 1992 and replaced by two new houses (Ritterstraße 4, 4a). The focal point of the hotel complex is the light-flooded "winter garden." The charm of the historic half-timbered houses combined with modern hotel facilities has inspired international guests ever since. The 11 suites of Hotel Arminius bear the names of Arminius' mistresses, e.g. B. Cenia, Tia, Minia, Varia, Catia-our bridal suite is named "Thusnelda." She was the wife of Arminius and was later taken to Rome.
