Jagdschloss Resort Kühtai History
In 1280, "Chutay" was first mentioned in a document. In 1497 the hunting lodge was rented to Emperor Maximilian I.
The extension of the complex took place between 1622 and 1628 by the will of Leopoldo V. who, together with his wife Claudia de Medici, had a driveway opened on the inhospitable Sellrain. In this time the princely hunting lodge combined with the Gothic and the late Gothic. The adjoining chapel dates from this time. Of the rooms of the Prince's rooms, one is still present today, to sleep in the manner of Leopoldo V. and Maria von Medici in the seventeenth century.
The hunting lodge changed ownership several times, until it reached 1893 when Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Sissi bought the property. Subsequently, they give it to Valerie, the favorite daughter of Empress Sissi, who then bequeathed to her daughter Edvige as a gift for the marriage with Count Stolberg.
This is the beginning of the Stolberg era, which lasts until 2016. Even then Hedwig recognized the importance of skiing and developed the Kühtai as a ski resort. Together with the Arlberg, Ötztal and Kitzbühel, the Kühtai was the cradle of skiing in the Alps.
The great-grandson of Emperor Franz Joseph, Carl Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg, in 1952 revitalized the princely hunting residence and transformed it into what is now the Hotel Jagdschloss Kühtai - a house full of traditions, where guests from all over the world they still feel a touch of past memories.
From 2004 to 2015, Christian Graf headed the hotel in Kühtai to Stolberg-Stolberg.
In 2016, Christian Graf handed over the house to Stolberg-Stolberg in the hands of the current owner, Dr. Ing. Martin Baldauf, Wolfgang Sommavilla and Armin Ennemoser.
