Monte del Re History
"Colle del Paradiso" is the name that Monte del Re has already earned in the thirteenth century because of the mystical atmosphere that has always prevailed in this corner of the Emilia countryside. Around the ancient convent of the minor friars of Monte del Re many legends have arisen, linked above all to the figure of Saint Francis, who is said to have spent a first stay here in about 1213. It is said, for example, that the wooden cross, still stuck near the church, was placed by the patron saint of Italy in 1223 and that the ancient well in the center of one of the two cloisters was excavated by the saint.
Purchased, at the beginning of the nineteenth century, by Count Passatelli, the convent became a "country or holiday casino" and after several changes of ownership it hosted seminarians from Imola. Today it is part of the association "Abitare la storia", and is a guest of strong character, which sees well blended ancient and modern. The rooms - among which there are six junior suites with Jacuzzi - are furnished with stylish furniture, wrought iron beds and Persian rugs. The former refectory, once austere place of frugal meals, houses the restaurant, in a warm atmosphere, ideal for candlelit dinners or for refined business lunches and dinners. To reign on the table are the typical flavors of the Emilia-Romagna gastronomy, well integrated with dishes of Mediterranean and international cuisine.
The congress center, originally in the old deconsecrated church and in the sacristy, is undoubtedly the original setting, as well as three other so-called Cloister, Cenacle and Library rooms. In the park, often a setting for summer cocktails and different gatherings, there is a swimming pool. Golf, tennis and riding center are in the immediate vicinity.
