An ancient Renaissance palace near Siena, once a Benedictine abbey, later transformed into a residence by Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, later elected Pope Julius II, is today a 4-star hotel in which the original style architecture combines with modern comforts. The name of this Relais was chosen in memory of its most illustrious owner: Cardinal Giuliano della Rovere, who later became Pope Julius II, also famous for having been a patron of the likes of Michelangelo and Raphael
Relais della Rovere welcomes its guests in refined and exclusive environments that at the same time preserve the warmth and the typicality of the family management. The hotel is composed of 3 buildings of different origins that represent a real historical excursus from 1100 up to the mid-nineteenth century: a Benedictine convent, a farmhouse and a Renaissance villa that Giuliano Della Rovere had built in 1470.
The large rooms that make up the hotel are located both in the part of the convent and in those of the villa, connected to each other by a bright corridor that overlooks the internal cloister of the building. The environment is surrounded by a centuries-old park rich in vegetation typical of the Tuscan bush. A swimming pool in travertine marble equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas invites the customer to relax and enjoy the holiday.
The rooms, 30 in all, are of various types but each has a private bathroom with hydromassage bath or shower, satellite TV, mini-bar, direct dial telephone, individually controlled air conditioning and heating, electronic safe, personalized cosmetic line, modem connection , are located in the three buildings that make up the structure.
The restaurant "Il Cardinale", obtained from the ancient cellars of the villa, offers a cuisine linked to the territory, making current traditional dishes, as well as a wide selection of local, national and foreign labels. A particular care in the choice of the products at the base of each dish, combined with wise and traditional cooking techniques, enhances the raw material, preserving the original flavor, give life to dishes prepared according to the seasons.
