Schloss Wackerbarth History
The roots of Wackerbarth Castle are rooted in the centuries-old tradition of taste in the Elbe valley in Saxony: for over 850 years viticulture has characterized the landscape and the life of people, 180 years ago, the cellars of Reims brought to Radebeul the French art of making sparkling wine.
The history of the complex is also closely linked to the Saxon court at the time of the splendor of the Baroque Dresden. Between 1727 and 1730 August Christoph Graf von Wackerbarth built a baroque castle and gardens at the foot of the Radebeul vineyards. The count was one of the closest confidants of Augustus the Strong and accompanied numerous important tasks: even today the Marshal General and the Secret Council remain in the memory especially as a builder - as governor of Dresden is also called "director of the Dresden Baroque".
The eventful history of Saxony and this baroque castle complex - with over 20 changes of ownership until the beginning of the 20th. Century - it is thanks to the fact that more than 20 years ago here was born the first adventurous winery in Europe.
