Siora Veronica History
The Siora Veronica was designed and built in two years between 1926 and 1927 by some blacksmiths of Peschiera del Garda. It was part of a fleet of over 100 boats, used to transport people and things (oil, wine, livestock) that shuttled between Riva del Garda and Desenzano at a time when there were still no roads around the lake.
The boat was armed with sails "on the fourth" and looked like a sailboat with bialbero with traditional sails and a large bow sail. These boats were also used for regattas, famous that of 6 July 1930 organized in Riva del Garda by Gabriele D'Annunzio.
When, after 1930, roads were built around Lake Garda, this type of transport was not more advantageous and gradually fell into disuse. In August 2001 it was decided to restore with immense enthusiasm one of the last surviving boats that was renamed "Siora Veronica" or Lady, Lady.
Siora Veronica is classified as a gold schooner and measures 24 meters in length by 5.6 meters in width and can carry a maximum of 50 people. Departures take place from the port of Malcesine. It is not possible to define the precise routes as wind and weather conditions are always decisive elements for the choice of routes. After the departure the sails are hoisted, the engine is switched off and the taste of the cruises of the past can be felt, enjoying the pleasure of being lulled by silence and water. Siora Veronica is also available for evening cruises to admire the beauty of the lake illuminated by shadows and lights reflected by the moon's rays.
