The Società Canottieri Milano is the oldest sports club in Italy overlooking the splendid setting of the Naviglio Grande in Milan.
Società Canottieri Milano History
Canottieri Milano was founded on 15 October 1890 by a councilor of "Forza e Coraggio", Guido Alessandro Bonnet, exclusively as a rowing company.
The idea was born after admiring four rowers who had made the Turin-Milan journey on a "four-wheeled Veneto".
Numerous members of "Forza e Coraggio" had seen in the sport of oar a wonderful complement to gymnastics, then queen over any other sporting activity.
They decided to found a rowing company because "Strength and Courage" could not bear the burden and sacrifices for an initiative still so uncertain and daring.
On January 22, 1891 the company statute was approved and the establishment of Canottieri Milano was sanctioned on March 15 of that year with the start of social activities.
Today Canottieri Milano is a sports club, which boasts countless Olympic and world athletes.
In addition to the aforementioned rowing, there are swimming, water polo and diving in the 50-meter swimming pool, basketball, tennis and running.
Not only that: faithful to the motto "sport for all", it organizes courses open to all, members and non-members in all the disciplines already mentioned, in addition to water aerobics, synchronized swimming, fitness and free diving.
And for those who want to relax, the 15,000 square meters of the venue offer a restaurant, bar, sauna, card room, solarium.
