Set in the unspoiled Maremma Toscana, a few kilometers from Castiglione della Pescaia, Andana Tenuta La Badiola offers luxurious accommodation, a spa and a renowned restaurant with a Michelin star. In what was the summer residence of Leopold II guests are immersed in the 500 hectares of the estate where it expresses all the variety of the Tuscan landscape, with flat areas, vineyards, olive groves, forests and Mediterranean vegetation.
Tenuta La Badiola History
The Andana Tenuta La Bandiola stands in a slightly elevated position at the foot of the last southern reaches of the Poggio Ballone hilly complex, not far from the Diaccia Botrona nature reserve.
The complex was originally a summer residence and hunting lodge of the Grand Dukes of Lorraine: Leopold II in 1826 around the Maremma stopped here and at the same time the construction of a farm decided to undertake the great work of land reclamation of the Maremma.
The main villa dates back to 1837 and is arranged on three floors characterized by walls with sober lines interspersed with quadrangular windows. The farm, of origins coeval to the villa and connected to it by a characteristic winter garden, instead develops on three sides, with the factory buildings leaning against the adjacent one. Among the complementary structures stand out the granary and the dryer, both dating back to the early twentieth century, and finally the Chapel of the Badiola, which has always been the noble chapel of the entire rural complex.
At the beginning of the third millennium the estate was completely restored and transformed into an exclusive hotel, while maintaining the farm with its production of oil, wine, vegetables, fruit and aromatic plants that have distinguished the history of the farm.
Passing through an imposing wrought iron gate, you walk along an avenue of pines and cypress trees that leads to the estate, immersed in its 500 hectares of countryside colors and scents. The hotel has various types of rooms, refined and spacious: the furniture and design is in rustic-chic style in perfect Tuscan style with antique furniture, rich fabrics and warm colors. From the rooms the view sweeps over the swimming pool, on the Mediterranean scrub and even further in the background with the sea.
During the stay, guests can do sports in the tennis court or improve their swing in the golf course which covers about 30,000 square meters.
If you are looking for pure relaxation, the wellness center of the estate has four rooms dedicated to treatments and regenerating paths for the face and body. One of the strengths of the wellness center is the "Pool of Vitality", a mixture of mineral salts and warm water to relax.
In the garden of the estate, where once was the old granary, now finds "La Trattoria Toscana", the only Italian restaurant to be signed Alain Ducasse. In 2007, confirming the excellence of the Chef and all the staff has been awarded the Michelin star. The proposed cuisine is authentic, simple, based on the perfect balance between creativity and genuineness of the ingredients. The restaurant, spread over about 150 square meters, can accommodate up to 100 guests, in a reserved and welcoming atmosphere, where discreet elegance is enhanced by exposed bricks, wooden beams and terracotta floors. Next to the hall opens a lovely terrace overlooking the surrounding gardens and hills and even further a smaller room, ideal for intimate dinners and special events.
