Antica Spezieria dello Spedale Serristori History
The Spedale della SS. Annunziata di Figline, intended for the reception of the poor and the sick, was founded in 1399 by Ser Ristoro di Jacopo Serristori.
The Spedale Serristori grew in the central area of Figline until 1890, when it was moved further from the center of the town to the Villa of San Cerbone, where the Ancient Spezieria is still located.
In the old pharmacy, born in the first half of the sixteenth century and renewed in 1724, you can observe the sixteenth-century furniture (with additions from the last century), ceramic and glass materials from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century and some ancient paintings.
Here are preserved majolica vases from the 16th and 17th centuries and various officinal glass vases from a period from the 17th to the 18th century, which were used to store chemical and medicinal materials and compounds, as reported on the nineteenth-century handwriting labels.
