Burg Golling is a castle in Golling an der Salzach, in the Austrian state of Salzburg, built by the Princes-Archbishops of Salzburg in the 13th century. The large fortress is located on a rock above the Salzach valley, near the strategically important straits between the Hagen and Tennen mountains, at 469 meters above sea level.
Burg Golling History
Burg Golling is a 13th century Gothic castle and an important historical monument of the city. The castle now houses a museum which has interesting exhibits on the history of the area and the castle. Some of the finds show prehistoric fossils found in the region surrounding the castle. The castle also features a beautifully restored ballroom which is used to host wedding receptions and parties. During the summer months, festivals and concerts are held in Burg Golling.
