The origins of Buttrio, pleasant center of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, date back to 185 BC, when Rome sent to the Friuli plain in the service of Aquileia 3000 Latin settlers. Here the Roman Legions transited, the hordes of barbarians, lingered the Lombards, clashed for the dominance of the area the Patriarchate of Aquileia, the Empire and Venice, and the Turks carried out bloody raids.
Castello di Buttrio History
Of the Castle of Buttrio, witness of much of these events, we begin to have documented since the year 1000. For its strategic position was several times in the middle of bloody events of arms: among these, the best known is perhaps the siege of the patriarchal troops in 1306, after the castle had fallen into the hands of the Count of Gorizia.
Its current structure with the two towers was built between 1600 and 1700 by the Signori Portis. Due to its historical and environmental value, it is protected, together with the surrounding vineyards, by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the complex underwent strong changes until it acquired the current shape: today the structure is characterized by two tall towers surrounded by rural buildings. The careful restoration carried out with passion by Alessandra Falluga has restored the authenticity and ancient charm of this historic home. Large areas dedicated to weddings, meetings, conventions and receptions and a salon allows you to host events with a maximum capacity of 130 people and other different solutions for more intimate events and private dinners. Eight elegant and spacious suites, one different from the other, complete the accommodation offer, where you can enjoy relaxing stays and sleep undisturbed.
The hospitality in the Castle is wide and diversified: perfect for cultured and refined weekends, marked by a search for peace and tranquility, in the Castle you can find the time to read, to walk, to explore the surroundings, but also to taste the fine wines produced by the homonymous farm or to appreciate the healthy and traditional local food and wine, which the inn cooks offer to their guests thanks to the skilful use of the products of the fund.
