Snežnik Castle is one of the two Slovenian castles that have preserved their authentic interiors and represents one of the most attractive cultural monuments in Notranjska, but also in Slovenia as a whole. The natural environment in which it is located is also admirable.
Both the castle and its surroundings, with the park and the entire estate, have been proclaimed a cultural monument of national importance.
Grad Snežnik History
A walk through the four floors of Snežnik Castle perfectly revives the atmosphere of 150 years ago, as the rooms boast authentic furniture and other household items from the second half of the 19th century. The living rooms and bedrooms of Princes Herman and Ulrich, Princess Ana, and the guest rooms are pleasant and comfortable, furnished with an array of originally upholstered historical seats and ornamental stoves. The walls are decorated with family portraits, old photos and prints. A special feature is the early 20th century Egyptian room. To make the environment of the vacation residence more cozy, the family had a piano, pool table and theater corner. Gradually, the owners collected many hunting trophies, including the stuffed bear that has been at the castle for over a century. The stone bailey area is used for temporary exhibitions, and there is a wedding hall on the ground floor.
The old castle in its beautiful natural setting offers its visitors a full day of enjoyable and informative entertainment.
