Masseria San Domenico is an ancient watch tower of the fifteenth century, located a few hundred meters from the sea between Bari and Brindisi. A careful restoration has transformed it into a hotel with 40 elegant rooms equipped with every modern comfort, providing it with a wellness center with thalassotherapy treatments. At the "San Domenico" restaurant, dishes from the Apulian cuisine are served accompanied by the best labels of the region, while you can relax with a drink in one of the two bars of the structure.
Masseria San Domenico History
The Masseria San Domenico, is one of the best preserved fortified farms architecturally and although adapted to modern needs, the Masseria San Domenico is intact in its original core of the fifteenth century - a tower of the Knights of Malta for the sighting of the Saracens - and in the expansions eighteenth century that have made a building with an almost Arabian profile in pure white tuff lines, with a dome and pinnacles surmounted by small crosses.
What's more, inside the tower there are wells in stone of carparo, trapdoors, remains of an ancient oil mill and even a rock settlement, one of the so-called Lame that characterize the area.
Today the Masseria San Domenico houses rooms and suites of an exclusive hotel, furnished with refined details and classic furniture. The restaurant is housed in a hall with vaulted ceilings in tuff and large fireplace, where guests, enlivened by the pleasant presence of a pianist in the room, can choose between dishes inspired by ancient regional recipes and Mediterranean specialties, especially seafood, accompanied by the best local labels.
For those who want to alternate the life of the sea - the private beach is only five hundred meters - to other sports activities, the hotel offers a gym, sauna, whirlpool, thalassotherapy center, two tennis courts, bicycle touring bikes, golf course at 18 holes and a huge pool of brackish water with an irregular shape, where tall palm trees and a millenary olive tree are reflected.
