Palazzo Tolomei History

Palazzo Tolomei is a splendid Renaissance palace located in the heart of Florence, expression of the most refined Renaissance taste. In fact, the first owners of the Palace were the Taddei, a noble Florentine family of merchants and bankers, famous for having hosted Raffaello Sanzio in 1505. The famous artist then had the opportunity to repay with the Taddei by painting the Madonna del Prato, now exhibited at the Kunsthistorische Museum in Vienna and the Holy Family, known as "Tondo Taddei", today at the National Gallery of Scotland.

Sold in 1564 to the Baglioni of Perugia, the building changed owners several times until it was bought in 1620 by the Del Chiaro family, the renowned goldsmith of Florence. I Del Chiaro began to restructure and embellish the building, with Antonio Ferri as an architect and calling to decorate the rooms the most famous Florentine artists of the time. Giuseppe Nicola Nasini and Alessandro Gherardini frescoed the halls of the festivals, Giovan Battista Ciceri added decorations and stuccos on all the floors of the building and carved the large statue of Diana that still today welcomes visitors in the fifteenth-century courtyard.

Choosing Palazzo Tolomei for your stay in Florence means to immerse yourself completely in an atmosphere permeated with art, history and culture without renouncing the comforts of a modern hotel.
