Relais Il Castello History
At the entrance to the medieval village of Monte Castello di Vibio, just a few kilometers from Todi, is the II Castello, built in a 16th century dwelling that still retains its original appearance. It is actually the whole country to seem "frozen" in time, with its battlements ramparts to reinforce the accesses and the narrow silent lanes, closed between houses that have not poorly known the use of cement.
The squared structure of the castle leaves room internally to an interweaving of arches and vaulted ceilings in stone or exposed brick, to small niches in which they show off shields, antique crossbow ornaments and medieval armor. Suggestive rooms lit by soft lights distinguish the rooms of the restaurant "Lo Scudiero", where refreshments and receptions can be organized that can accommodate up to 250 guests, who here acquire the flavor of true Renaissance banquets. There are, however, quiet rooms for a romantic dinner for two, where it will be even more enjoyable to taste the traditional cuisine of Umbria.
The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated in style with the rest of the dwelling; some overlook the streets of the village, others on the Tiber valley.
A curiosity: next to the castle is the Teatro della Concordia, which with its 99 seats, between stages and stalls, is the smallest theater in the world still active. It is a jewel of architecture of 1808 and recently restored, frescoed by a "budding" artist, Luigi Agretti who when he did it in 1892, was only 14 years old. The theater season, in collaboration with the Teatro di Parma, includes lyric prose, operetta and concerts of classical and jazz music. The Theater is also available for meetings and conferences.
