Schlosshotel Purschenstein promises a superlative stay in a historic setting combined with contemporary modernity.
The castle has been in existence for 800 years, and a touch of history hovers in each of the 50 differently decorated suites and rooms.
Schloss Purschenstein History
The castle, originally documented as "Castrum Borsensteyn," was probably built around 1200 by the Bohemian knight Borso II, from whom the name Schloss Purschenstein was also derived.
After numerous changes of ownership, Schloss Purschenstein belonged for more than 500 years to the von Schönberg family, whose princes and counts found their final resting place in the family crypt in the castle grounds.
In GDR times, the castle was used as a children's home and cultural center. After a fire on April 3, 1989, the castle was partially renovated between 1990 and 2001.
In 2005, the Dutch Praagman family bought Schloss Purschenstein and transformed it into one of the most beautiful castles in the metal mountains.
The 4-star hotel has 46 rooms of different categories to allow guests to relax and enjoy the magicalatmosphere that only a castle can offer. The suites, duplex rooms and double rooms have been decorated with great attention to detail, with furniture and antiques highlighting the castle's historical heritage. Each room in the hotel is uniquely decorated with its own character.
There is also an elegant restaurant, REMISE, created from the castle's former carriage house. The kitchen focuses on regional specialties, has a traditional wine cellar, and is one of the best dining addresses in Saxony, according to Gerolsteiner's restaurant ranking.
