History

Just five minutes drive from Merano, Castel Labers boasts an enviable view of the city and the valley. Of the long history of the building, which began in the eleventh century, it is interesting to know that its austere and impressive architecture and the surrounding natural environment were much appreciated already by the king of Bavaria Ludovico I, who meditated to move to this area.

In 1885 the castle later became the property of Adolph Neubert of Copenhagen, who transformed it into a hotel for a while. During the Second World War, it constituted the secret base of Bernhard Krüger and Friedrich Schwend, organizer of the network for the exchange of false pounds in Switzerland, which seems to have been produced right in the historic cellars of the manor.

Today it is home to the descendants of the Neubert, who have restored its function as a hotel maison. Lovers of music and art, the owners often organize, to enliven the evenings of their guests, concerts and recitals of candlelit piano and exhibitions of theme paintings. Scaloni decorated with medieval halberds, large rooms with antique furniture and paintings introduce the rooms, furnished with nineteenth-century furniture or in style. Among these, if possible, it is preferable to choose those obtained in the tower, wider and better maintained, or those with a panoramic terrace. The restaurant serves traditional Tyrolean dishes and wines of own production, which can be enjoyed in the elegant dining room or, in summer, in the garden. Heated swimming pool, clay tennis court, billiard room and conference rooms complete the services. In the private chapel attached to the castle Mass is celebrated and, on request, weddings.
