Castelfalfi History
The estate and the village of Castelfalfi in the heart of the holiday home, golf club and restaurant and holiday apartments in Castelfalfi
The village originated in the early Middle Ages, when the first settlement was built around 700 by the Lombard Faolfi. From here, the name Castrum Faolfi could derive, later changed to Castelfalfi. Among the historical maps, Castelfalfi appears in 754 when Walfredo di Ratgauso della Gherardesca cites the village on the occasion of a donation to the Badia di Monteverdi in Maremma.
In 1139 the land was sold by Ranieri della Gherardesca to the bishop of Volterra, while the Medici arrived from the 15th century: in 1475 the owners Giovanni di Francesco Gaetani and his wife Costanza de 'Medici renovated the castle and built the adjacent villa as a hunting lodge .
With almost a thousand years of history behind it, from the sixties of the nineteenth century the village undergoes a process of depopulation: the inhabitants of the village prefer to go down to the plain and work in the city factories. Thus begins for Castelfalfi a long chapter of decline and abandonment that lasts until the third millennium, when a recovery and restoration program is launched to redevelop both the center and the surrounding estate. The abandoned village thus turns into a modern resort, where the charm of the past era has remained unchanged.
The offer is both tourist and real estate, with the sale of apartments and villas on the one hand, and accommodation facilities such as hotels, restaurants, swimming pools, spas, conference rooms and a 27-hole golf club on the other.
