Set on a hill in the south-eastern part of Chianti, the Castelletto di Montebenichi is an ancient structure dating back to the 12th century. All the rooms of the castle contain collections of ancient art, from furniture to paintings to furnishings. Transformed into a charming hotel, it envelopes guests in an atmosphere of unique charm where the charm of the past is combined with all modern comforts.

Castello di Montebenichi History

Staying in the castle of Montebenichi is like living in a museum, so much so that it is difficult to describe it as simply a hotel. Halfway between Arezzo and Siena, Montebenichi is an excellent starting point for visiting and discovering the artistic, naturalistic and enogastronomic Tuscan wonders.

It is assumed that the ancient castle of Montebenichi originated from a Lombard settlement in which were also received the survivors of some neighboring Etruscan-Roman locations such as La Pieve, La Selva and Monte di Rota. The Lombard origin of Montebenichi would be confirmed by the name itself which, it seems, derives from a reduction of "Benicolo", a diminutive in turn of the Lombard "Benuald". There are few traces of the primitive castle, while the vestiges of a tower and some sections of the wall circuit date back to the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century.

The noble rooms of this medieval fortress, as well as the rooms and suites offered as accommodation, are in fact embellished with delicate frescoes, coffered ceilings in painted wood and a multitude of paintings, art objects and antiques from the collections private owners, Marco Gasparini and Arnaldo Soriani, who wanted to create in their home a refined and exclusive environment, while maintaining the warmth of an intimate and familiar atmosphere.

A welcome that guests can appreciate at all times of the day, being free to use the common areas to read or listen to music, to use, in total autonomy, drinks and drinks available in rooms and rooms.

Breakfast is served in the loggia with homemade cakes and delicious jams and from here while you wake up you can enjoy a truly breathtaking view! To make your stay even more pleasant there is also the swimming pool surrounded by vineyards and olive trees.

Located on the ridge of a hill five hundred and ten meters high, the castle of Montebenichi is the heart of the small village of the same name, which seems to unfold around its tortuous crenellated walls. From the swimming pool you can enjoy a superb view of the Valdambra, a nature paradise outlined by the rigid geometries of vines and olive trees and by thick bush woods, a few kilometers from the center of Bucine.

The castle does not have its own restaurant but it is possible to taste the typical Tuscan dishes at the Ristorante l'Orciaia which is located right next to the residence.
