Historic home surrounded by the green hills of Chianti, the Castello di Tornano, dating back to the year 1000, offers elegant suites with fine furnishings and modern comforts. Outside there is a suggestive swimming pool created from the ancient moat while in the old castle prison it is possible to taste the farm's products, the classic Chianti wine and the olive oil.
Castello di Tornano History
Making a synthesis, however anachronistic and forced, of what the castle of Tornano represents, one could define it as a well-equipped "holiday village", but with a particularity of no small importance. The ten apartments that compose it have in fact been derived from the renovation of a medieval fortress (XII century) and the farmhouses of the adjacent village, a complex recognized national monument and protected by the ministerial constraint.
Very high and imposing construction with a slightly trapezoidal base, in stone filarotto, with shoe base and numerous original arched openings; at the top on the west side are the shelves of probable plungers. To the south a fragment of the walls that probably contained smaller buildings
The owner of this historical and artistic recovery is the Selvolini family, which welcomes guests as family friends, putting at their disposal the many sports and leisure facilities of the castle: riding stables, tennis court and bowls, lake for sport fishing, hunting reserve, children's playground and a spectacular swimming pool excavated in the old defensive moat.
In the thirteenth-century tower is the most striking apartment, which is spread over three floors, in a succession of lounges and rooms furnished with original furniture, up to a rooftop terrace. Some rooms of the tower are also suitable to host events and celebrations on request, while in the ancient prisons you can taste wines, oil and other products of the farm of the castle of Tornano.
Other apartments, are housed in a farmhouse at the foot of the fortress, one in the old stables and another, nicknamed Capanna, in the barn, in absolute independence. The dominant style is rustic Tuscan, simple but comfortable.
