The Castello di Proceno, located in the homonymous village, is a complex inside a carefully restored medieval castle that offers spacious rooms with fireplace, Wi-Fi, a large garden with swimming pool and a gastronomic restaurant. Each room is furnished in a rustic but elegant way, for stays of tranquility and peace immersed in a unique historical atmosphere.
Castello di Proceno History
A spiral of walkways and walls leads to the castle of Proceno, a rare example of medieval fortification built in the twelfth century to defend the village of the same name. What was for centuries the last bulwark of the Papal State with respect to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany is presented with a pentagonal base from which rise asymmetric towers, connected to each other by a drawbridge. The complex also includes a fourteenth-century fort, connected to the castle by a part of the town walls. In the role of the castle today there is Cecilia Cecchini Bisoni, a noblewoman of the past and master of an exceptional house. It is she who takes care of the reception, making available to the guests the various apartments: some overlook the inner square of the castle, collected and enlivened by a climb of stairs and spots of flowers and plants; the biggest ones are inside the fort and open towards the surrounding countryside.
The whole structure, characterized by wooden ceilings, antique terracotta floors and exposed stone or brick walls, is furnished with antique family or rustic-style furniture.
Mistress even behind the stove, Mrs. Cecilia is always creative and able to invent interesting combinations between Italian and international cuisine, as can be seen in the romantic restaurant in the former stable.
Surrounded by green gardens is the pool, connected to the castle by an ancient tunnel carved into the rock, while in the cellars of the fort are held tastings of fine wines. In an old hunting lodge, fifteen kilometers away, there are other double rooms and a swimming pool.
