Locanda Palazzone is a historic residence of medieval times located just minutes from Orvieto. In the suites of what is one of the oldest hotels in Italy you can still breathe the ancient charm of history along with a welcoming atmosphere given by the refined and modern furnishings. All around the property are the vineyards from which the Locanda Palazzone winery obtains fine wines, to be tasted in the hotel's wine cellar or together with the Umbrian specialties offered by the restaurant.
Locanda Palazzone History
Locanda Palazzone is a magnificent boutique hotel located on a hill in the open countryside, surrounded by lush vineyards with the cliffs of the city of Orvieto standing out in the background. In this corner of a wildly savage nature, a scrupulous restoration has brought the Palazzone back to its old splendor, respecting the ancient character of a medieval "hospitalis" for pilgrims coming from France to Rome.
This historical soul is elegantly contrasted with the modern minimalist style furniture that is found in its rooms. Within its walls, few and exclusive suites welcome travelers with the most modern comforts, where contemporary style is combined with the original architecture. Everything is designed to offer relaxing stays, heating and air conditioning, internet access, TV with satellite channels, safe and above all magnificent views that embrace the surrounding landscape, with windows framed by antique arches.
At the Palazzone restaurant the protagonists are the genuine flavors of the earth, with dinner served in the garden or, during the summer, on the panoramic terrace. The set menu, but every day different, is edited by chef Salvatore Canargiu; for lovers of good food there are also cooking classes, for no more than two people at a time, where you can learn the secrets of traditional Umbrian recipes.
Even the Locanda Palazzone winery has its roots in tradition and passion combined with the use of modern technologies allowing the birth of great wines. To the 18 hectares of vineyards of the property planted in Orvieto Classico were added the Cabernet and then later the Sauvignon, the Viognier and the native Grechetto; after having been bottled and left to mature in the underground cave dug into the tuff, the wines produced await tasting in the delicious wine shop.
Locanda Palazzone is also proposed to host events or weddings for up to 120 people; the large room on the ground floor overlooking the garden with two large French windows is suitable for receptions up to 10-15 participants, while on the lower floor the wine shop is able to hold a maximum of 25-30 people. In the large garden that extends to the vineyards can host banquets for up to 120 people and on the terrace overlooking the valley and on Orvieto you can serve lunch for thirty guests or aperitifs standing for 120 people.
