The sixteenth-century Palazzo Fieschi, in Savignone in the Ligurian hinterland, hosts a characteristic hotel, probably the oldest in Liguria, where the charm of the period residence matches the modern needs of comfort. The 21 rooms, which are different from each other, have 19th-century style furnishings; the internal restaurant, cured of the owners, offers the typical dishes of the territory.
Palazzo Fieschi History
In Liguria "Fieschi" has always been synonymous with nobility and history. There are many tourist resorts on the Riviera that boast traces of the passage of the family and among these Savignone, an inland town thirty kilometers from Genoa, in whose main square stands Palazzo Fieschi.
Built in the second half of the sixteenth century by Count Ettore Fieschi, it underwent expansion in the second half of the sixteenth century, until it reached its current appearance. Besides being one of the many residences owned by the aristocratic family, it is also the oldest hotel in Liguria among those still in operation. It was the year 1856 when Carlotta Fieschi, the last heir of the family, decided to rent the entire property, which was transformed into a hotel and spa. Since then, the activity has never known stop, up to pass in the hands of the current owners, who deal directly with the management of those that is the "residence of the period" among the oldest (senon the oldest) of the entire region.
The entrance, made particularly bright by a domed skylight, is characterized by two imposing Doric columns dating back to 1440 and a beautiful staircase leading to the upper floors. Almost all the rooms are embellished with cross vaults or sail vaults, ceilings decorated with delicate eighteenth-century frescoes, antique furniture, gilded mirrors and Murano chandeliers from the late nineteenth century.
The rooms, three of which are in the attic and equipped with romantic dormers, are all different and furnished with antiques. The restaurant, enrolled in the "Conservatory of Mediterranean Cuisine", is a real source of ancient flavors and certainly deserves a visit. A warm and familiar atmosphere accompanies lunches and dinners where the typical recipes are prepared with genuine products, zero kilometer or otherwise coming from the territory.
Weddings, cocktails, parties and company meetings find in Palazzo Fieschi an ideal venue, with elegant rooms on the main floor capable of hosting from 40 to 90 people. A shuttle service also connects the hotel with the capital, making the hotel also suitable as a point of stay for events taking place in the convention area of the fairs.
