Set in a magnificent panoramic setting, Castello di Spessa is a beautiful manor house dating back to 1200. In the castle there is a medieval cellar, 15 rooms and at the foot of the castle beyond the golf course that surrounds the structure, also the restaurant.
Castello di Spessa History
The Castello di Spessa is presented today according to the lines it acquired in 1881, when it was partially rebuilt according to a project by the architect Ruggero Belam.
However, its origins date back to the twelfth century, as shown by some medieval structures still visible in the charming cellars dug into the rock and with low brick vaults (connected to those obtained from a bunker from the Second World War).
In 1575 Giuseppe Rassauer signed an act of marriage with which he granted his daughter Giovanna to Sigismondo Conte della Torre-Valvassina, to whom he brought the estate of Spessa as a dowry: thus began the Torriani dynasty in Spessa.
The historiography tells us of a lineage that was distinguished by violence, robbery, murder and condemnation by both the Venetian Republic and the Austrian authorities (Girolamo della Torre, unpunished murderer of a gardener, lives barricaded in the castle of Spessa).
Later it belonged to more recent aristocratic families such as the counts Thurn a Taxis and the barons Segre, in 1773 it also hosted the famous Giacomo Casanova.
In 1916 he was kidnapped by the Italian army by the Economo (Austrians); in this period the building houses Marshal Cadorna and Marshal Diaz.
Currently the manor is home to a thriving farm; Thirty hectares of vineyards cultivated with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Bordolese which, skilfully blended, give life to the precious red Conte di Spessa.
Wine production is associated with the hotel business, which is divided between the suites on the main floor of the castle and the rooms obtained in an old farm house overlooking, also equipped with a restaurant.
Furnished with antiques of notable interest, the suites of the castle allow you to appreciate the pleasures of the lords of the past, enjoying warm environments, always attentive and cordial service and silences that are amplified in the surrounding countryside and envelop everything in a particular atmosphere.
Exhibitions, receptions, seminars and cultural events are happy to be carried out in the splendid halls of the castle.
